PAINFUL...MOTHER SHARES PICTURES OF HER BABY AT 19 WEEKS

A Pennsylvania mother who gave birth to her son at 19 weeks posted her story and photographs on her blog to share with friends and family, but her brave choice has spread way beyond her immediate circle to bring comfort to other grieving mothers.

DailyMail reports Alexis Fretz was 30 years old and 19 weeks pregnant with her third child when she began bleeding lightly.
Not overly worried, she called her midwife and as a precaution was advised to head to the ER in a Kokomo, Indiana hospital for a check-up. By the end of that day, her son Walter had been born and died in her arms.

MEDITATION FOR TODAY

When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). How did John recognize Jesus? After all, he confessed that he didn’t know him before—or at least that he didn’t know that Jesus was the chosen Messiah. What happened?

John saw Jesus with the eyes of his heart. He could see who Jesus really was because the Holy Spirit revealed it to him. We might say that the Holy Spirit invited John to see and that John accepted the invitation.

Day after day, the Holy Spirit invites us to see Jesus as well. When we accept his invitation in prayer, we give the Spirit the freedom to open our eyes and our hearts. Our yes tells the Spirit, “Please show Jesus more clearly to me because I want to know him more. I want his presence, his power, and his mercy in my life.”

Isn’t it amazing how we can read so much into what we see with our physical eyes? This happens when an accountant reads a company’s balance sheet, when a doctor reads the results of a blood test, or when a father sees a confused look on his teenager’s face. Just as a doctor has been trained to know what to look for, so our minds can be formed to recognize spiritual realities. John was able to recognize Jesus in large part because he was committed to God and eager to do his will. His heart was soft, and his mind was alert.

Today, let’s be alert to God. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus each morning. Let’s pray as often as we can, persevere as much as we can, and stay as peaceful as we can all day long.St. Catherine of Siena learned to stay close to God by simply repeating: “God all, I nothing.” This was how she came into God’s presence and recognized him. May this be our disposition as well!

“Lord, open my eyes so that I can see you.”

Isaiah 49:3, 5-6; Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-10; 1 Corinthians 1:1-3

MEDITATION FOR TODAY...STRENGTH FOR TODAY

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in your weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

You can overcome whatever you’re going through — not by your strength, or your wisdom, or your prayers, or your experience — but through God’s grace.

His free, His matchless grace, independent of all works and efforts, independent of everything in us, flowing wholly and solely, fully and freely, out from Jesus to the needy, the guilty, the destitute, the undone.

You who are tried in worldly circumstances, remember what the Lord has said…

“My grace is sufficient for you.”

His grace is sufficient for you who are tempted.

“God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” (1 Cor 10:13)

“My grace is sufficient for you.”

His grace is sufficient for you who are burdened with family troubles, afflictions, and worry.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” (Ps 34:18-19)

“My grace is sufficient for you.”

Our weakness, helplessness, and inability are the very things which draw forth the power, the strength, and the grace of Jesus!

“My power is made perfect in your weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9)

Believer, never forget the words:

“My grace is sufficient for you!”

The free, the matchless, sovereign grace of God, is sufficient for all His people whatever state, or stage, or trouble, or difficulty they may be in!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28)

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in your weakness.”

MEDITATION FOR TODAY...ALL SPRUCED UP!

Getting our children to look good for church was always a challenge. Ten minutes after arriving at church all spruced up, our little Matthew would look like he didn’t have parents. I’d see him running down the hall with his shirt half untucked, glasses cockeyed, shoes scuffed up, and cookie crumbs decorating his clothes. Left to himself, he was a mess.

I wonder if that is how we look sometimes. After Christ has clothed us in His righteousness, we tend to wander off and live in ways that make us look like we don’t belong to God. That’s why Jude’s promise that Jesus is “able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless” gives me hope (Jude 1:24).

How can we keep from looking like we don’t have a heavenly Father? As we become more yielded to His Spirit and His ways, He will keep us from stumbling. Think of how increasingly righteous our lives would become if we would take time in His Word to be cleansed with “the washing of water by the word” (Eph. 5:26).

What a blessing that Jesus promises to take our stumbling, disheveled lives and present us faultless to the Father! May we increasingly look like children of the King as we reflect His loving care and attention.

Lord, thank You for the blessing of being clothed
in Your beautiful righteousness and the promise
that You will keep me from stumbling and present
me faultless before Your Father and my God!
To reflect the presence of the Father, we must rely on the Son.

THE NEXT BIG THANG: FILM MAKER...EBUKA NJOKU

AWARD WINNER, EBUKA NJOKU IS OUR FEATURE FOR TODAY'S, THE NEXT BIG THANG. AN UPCOMING FILM MAKER AND SCRIPT WRITER, EBUKA NJOKU HAS OVER THE YEARS, BECOME A PROFESSIONAL IN HIS TRADE. A YOUNG MAN WHO HAS A PASSION FOR THE FILM INDUSTRY, OPENS UP ABOUT HIS BACKGROUND,LOVE FOR FILM AND HIS LATEST PROJECT...

Ebuka with award winning Author, Chimamanda Adichie

Who is Ebuka Njoku?

MEN: Hmmm... Ebuka Njoku is a 21 year old Nigerian film-maker...

Tell us a bit about your background

MEN: I was born in Nkanu , grew up in Awka, had my university education in UNN. i started writing at age 1, and over the years, I've tried my hands on different genres of literature but once I tried drama, I had the inkling that that's my spot. A friend of mine saw one of my short plays and talked me into writing a screenplay. It was scary but I did it all the same. The reception was good so I kept doing it. But then I had a problem with the way my works were interpreted. So I decided to take the challenge of putting my screenplays to the screen. And then, I discovered the game is a tough war but I'm ready to win...

RAINDROPS,one of your first major projects won the AMAKA IGWE BOBTV prize 2012...what inspired it?

MEN: In Dec 2011, there was the news of a girl gang raped when she visited her '2go' (a social network)friend. I happened to see the video and I ws left speechless at the view. I promised myself I was going to write about that. When I got back to school, I heard of the BOB tv film festival. So i wrote the rape story as the news was still fresh in most Eastern higher institutions. I did, and the script was accepted in the department.(link to raindrops...http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8pIWim5fks4&gl=NG&hl=en&guid=&client=mv-google)
EBUKA with short black boy...M.I

What went through your mind when the 'short film' was announced as the best?

MEN: Candidly speaking, after watching the other movies submitted for the award, I knew prior to the announcement that our film would win. Somthe announcement was just a confirmation of my anticipation.

What was the experience like on set?

MEN: Hmmm... Ambivalent! I was excited seeing my work being lifted from the paper, but afraid it wasn't turning out as I imagined but then, the director had his concept and there were certain challenges on set. But it turned out a piece I'm proud of...

Your Short film 15 minutes was recently nominated in the recently concluded NMA awards 2013...how did you pull up such a feat?

MEN: Nollywood Movies Awards and then in Short Int'l Film Festival. Would I call that a feat? While making 15 Minutes, I thought it would go beyond getting a few nominations. So, I won't say the turn out was impressive.(watch 15minutes here...http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IPLKjxwtROU&hl=en&guid=&client=mv-google&gl=NG)

What's your latest project or are you currently working on one now?

MEN: Well, I made a short film; LIGHTER|matches in November, the trailer is out on the internet. I'm currently working on the script for my first feature...(link to LIGHTER|matches  http://bit.ly/1cjfMf8)
Ebuka with figurine/phoneswap script writer...kemi Adesoye

What inspires you?

MEN: Lots of things but mostly, true life events. Raindrops was inspired by a video clip I saw, 15 Minutes was inspired by a lecturer I know, LIGHTER|matches was inspired by a girl I saw smoking at a bar in Lagos. Bola's Dirge (A script that won me Homevida Integrity Film Award) was inspired by a pregnant girl on my street, and the script I'm currently on is inspired by a suicide incident in UNN... When the inspiration comes, I just make some research and create my story.

Nollywood recently celebrated her 20th birthday...so far,how would you rate her and any alteration?

MEN: People doubt it when I say 'I grew up watching Nollywood movies', because I don't make the average Nollywood kind of Nollywood. Many good Nigerian film makers find it hard defending the kind of movie they make. But the fact is, Nollywood is ours and the least we should do is take care of her. Just like our educational system, our science and technology sector, our military, aviation and every other sector in Nigeria, Nollywood has some issues. We churn out many movies every year most of which intelligent Nigerians can't enjoy because of there quality. But shall we keep complaining when great actions can speak louder? Unlike most people, I don't believe finance is the major issue, lack of good heads is. All I do is study and practice what I study. And whenever I have a project at hand, I try to make the best out of the limited fund I source. I believe if we all can try do that, in no distant time, we'll bench Hollywood in terms of quality production.

Education or chasing dreams
Which should come first?

MEN: If by education, you mean schooling, I'd say the school system is scam, not just in Nigeria, but all over d world
On set...

In other words...

MEN: But if by education you mean any kind of education, the one you do sitting on your desk reading or going about asking questions and trying out new things,
I'd say, what are dreams without funds, and what is the greatest fund our dreams need if not education. In other words, if your schooling doesn't push you closer to your dreams, forget schooling and educate yourself.

Final words to aspiring film makers?

Train your head to follow your heart and train your heart to feed your head. Every good thing we enjoy in the world today was made by someone or some people. The greatest thing you owe to any good thing you use in your life, is to do something better before you die. No matter what you're going through, some people have made it through worse scenarios. So don't call yourself less privileged and don't make excuses for anything because, nothing is impossible and like my friend Asikey sings 'You're bigger than what you think you are' ... Dalu rinne...

    BENEFITS OF LOSING THAT WEIGHT

Losing weight can make you look good and feel better, but it can also have unintended positive benefits for your wallet. Really. According to a study from George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, being overweight is taxing, not only on the body, but on the bank account. And that's not a good look.

What do you get if you slim down? According to the study, losing weight lowers medical bills. People who are overweight spend an average of $346 on medical costs per year, and have higher rates of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. All of those diseases are super expensive to treat. Another huge benefit of losing weight? You'll make more money. A 2011 study of youth found that obese women earned an average of 15 percent less than normal weight women, which was confirmed by this most recent study.

5 Tips to Combat Knots and Tangles in Type 4 Natural Hair

    tumblr_m9jlaqpsHN1qd09eyo1_1280-620x620

By Chinwe of Hair and Health

Tight coils, little to no curl pattern, and major shrinkage make type 4 natural hair an environment conducive to knots and tangles.  Imagine tossing several tightly coiled wires into a bag haphazardly.  Now imagine removing these wires one by one from the bag. You will get knots and tangles galore, right? A similar event can occur in our natural hair when left loose, wild, and shrunken.

    1. The basics to minimizing knots & tangles

Refrain from wearing wash-n-gos once your hair reaches 6-8 inches in length.  Protective style frequently. Detangle thoroughly AND regularly. Keep your hair moisturized.

    2. Further prevention – Wash in braids

Washing your hair while it is loose is highly discouraged. (Think back to the bag full of tightly coiled wires.)  Instead, wash your hair in braided sections to minimize tangling. About washing in twists: Twists, unless done small or medium, tend to unravel during a wash. Thus, braids may be a better option for some naturals.

    3. Continuing on – Short-term stretched styles

If you want to wear your hair out, stretched styles (i.e., twist outs, braid outs) are by far the best method to minimize knots and tangles.  However, allowing such styles to age beyond their limit leaves room for shrinkage and defeats the purpose.  Keep the style duration to a minimum.  Note: The higher the humidity, the shorter the wear. Also, the longer your hair, the shorter the wear.

    4. Speaking of stretching - Use a thick, heavy detangler

During your regular detangling sessions, use a cholesterol-based or other thick, heavy conditioner to ease the process.  The conditioner will add weight to the hair thus stretching the coils temporarily. Alternative: Some naturals prefer detangling on dry, stretched, lubricated hair since wet strands can lead to shrinkage.

    5. Do not wet the knot

In the event that you do get a knot, the worst thing you can do is apply water. Why? Because the strands will shrink and the knot will become harder to unravel. Instead, apply an oil or butter and gradually pull out each strand from the knot one by one. Alternative: Some naturals have success applying a conditioner to the knot while others do not. Do what works for you.  Depending on how serious the knot is, a thin tool – such as the end of a rattail comb – may be used to help with unraveling. Refrain from using sharp tools, like needles or safety pins, which may damage the cuticle.
