FOOD FOR THOUGHT...CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE

In a recent interview on THE NATION NEWSPAPER, one of Nigeria's widest circulating Newspapers, the Writer, Chimamanda Adichie whose Book, Americanah was voted as one of the TOP TEN BOOKS OF 2013 BY New York Times, The Guardian (London) and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)says this that I personally agree to...

"People write letters as if they are writing text messages, they do write 'u' instead of 'you' and you can't compete in the world, if you write like that, whether you want to be a writer or a doctor. So, that is the kind of thing I'm interested in. When I talk about Literary Village, I don't know if I may work for that, I will like a Literary Centre, a centre that is about literacy and a centre that would be about writing which are two different things. For now, it is a dream."

In other words, what she implied was abbreviating words when they shouldn't be, especially in formal writings is a huge setback to this present generation. Co-incidentally,I posted something of this sort on my Facebook Page and it is quite positive most youths are seconding this fact.

 Do you agree or not?
